Fans Say New Scary Movie Won’t Be Funny Because ‘People Can’t Take A Joke’ These Days
Scary Movie fans say the upcoming addition to the franchise won’t be funny because ‘people can’t take a joke these days.’
The series, created by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, released five films from 2000 to 2013, in which it mocked and poked fun at popular horror tropes of the time.
Keenan wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon and Shawn were both writers and stars in those instalments.
Despite not being the most critically acclaimed franchise, the series was commercially successful, grossing an estimated $830 million worldwide at the box office.
Now, the Wayan brothers are set to reunite for the first time in almost two decades as they develop Scary Movie 6.

The pending instalment of the Scary Movie franchise has sparked controversy due to the growing debate surrounding comedy and modern growing sensitivities.
Some viewers are excited for a return of the satirical horror following the original films, but others don’t have high expectations.
Many longtime fans argue the real problem isn’t with the movie itself, but with the changing attitudes toward humor.
The franchise was known for crude humor, shock value, and controversial punchlines, which worked in the early 2000s, but in today’s culture, it’s a different story.
“Kids nowadays won’t have a clue with their non-humor personalities,” one person wrote.
Another added: “Won’t be the same because the easily offended no doubt will be offended, so the close to the edge jokes etc won’t be done… Hope it’s good though.”
“It won’t be the same, that was a different generation,” a third put.

Still, many fans feel the new Scary Movie won’t lose the franchise’s comedic roots.
Defending the series, one said: “It’s not that the movie isn’t funny. It’s that people are too sensitive now. Comedy isn’t allowed to be edgy anymore.”
People also argue that comedians and writers are walking on eggshells, too afraid of backlash to bold jokes.
This is often linked to the global societal changes through different generations; humor hasn’t disappeared, it’s just been censored by cancel culture and political correctness.
Younger audiences, raised in an era of social awareness, often demand more inclusive and thoughtful comedy.
The new Scary Movie finds itself caught in the middle, trying to satisfy nostalgia-driven fans while navigating a radically different cultural climate.
