Seth Rogen has revealed the one co-star he would never work with again after publicly parting ways with the actor.

The 44-year-old, who hails from Vancouver, Canada, started his career as a performer by doing stand up, from the ripe age of just 13 years old.

He would regularly perform in clubs and comedy contests while still at school, which went on to inform his his acting career years later.

Famous friendships from a young age

In fact, it was a close friendship formed around this time which would go on to shape much of Rogen’s career.

When he was just 12 years old, he met Canadian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer Evan Goldberg at a Bar Mitzvah prep class.

Several years later, they went on to collaborate on a number of generation-defining comedies and hit TV shows, including Superbad, Pineapple Express, The Boys and Sausage Party.

Rogen’s big break came when he was just 16 years old and he was cast as Ken Miller in Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks, launching not just his career, but many of his cast mates’ too, including James Franco, Jason Segel, and Linda Cardellini.

From writing to movie star

Despite Freaks and Geeks only lasting one series, Rogen’s career went from strength to strength, with him soon going on to write material for Sacha Baron Cohen’s Da Ali G Show and getting his first movie break in 2005’s The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

From there, his Hollywood career snowballed, with the actor starring in Knocked Up and Superbad, both in 2007, the latter of which he wrote alongside Goldberg.

The following year, he co-wrote and starred in Pineapple Express, as well as appearing in Zack and Miri Make A Porno and in 2009 appeared in Funny People.

Despite being known as a comedy star, Rogen has also impressed critics with his performances in a number of different dramatic roles, in 50/50, Steve Jobs and Take This Waltz.

The one co-star Rogen won’t work with again

Throughout his career, Rogen maintained a close professional and personal relationship with close friend James Franco, having worked with him on many titles, including The Interview, Pineapple Express, and This is the End.

The pair were very close friends until Franco found himself ‘cast out’ of Hollywood, following allegations of s**ual assault from an ex-girlfriend in 2018, prompting more women to speak out against the actor.

A number of former students claimed Franco was ‘sexually inappropriate’ by sleeping with them while still acting as their teacher.

Rogen initially stood by his pal, however by 2021 he had fully distanced himself from his former friend of two decades, issuing a statement to say he would no longer be collaborating with his Freaks and Geeks co-star.

“What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that,” he added in the statement provided to The Sunday Times.

Now, half a decade later, Rogen has made a rare statement about his former pal after it was revealed Franco would be making his Hollywood comeback by joining the cast of John Rambo, alongside Noah Centineo and David Harbour.

Speaking to the New York Times’ The Daily podcast, he admitted he wasn’t sure how much he ‘wants to personally share about this.’

“I honestly think the nuance of it is too personal for me to get into right now,” he explained.

“It is a very personal thing, and I think there’s like the public-facing side of it, which I’ve spoken about, and I have the same stance publicly that I’ve had.”

However, from a personal perspective, things get a little bit more complicated, with Rogen revealing it ‘involves people that I don’t know if I should be dragging into this.’

He did, however, reiterate that his stance has not changed, adding: “I haven’t worked with him in a really long time, and I have no plans to.

“I think the proof is in the pudding more than anything. I have not worked with him in years… I think the proof is in the pudding more than anything. I have not worked with him in years.”
