Parents are being warned that their kids are ‘acting out challenges’ from Squid Game at school.

The hit Netflix show sees hundreds of cash-strapped contestants accept an invitation to compete in a series of children’s games to win money. However, the punishment for losing is deadly.

John Bramston Primary School, in Ilford, has now taken action and sent out a letter to parents urging them to not let pupils watch the programme.

According to The Independent, the letter reads: “Dear Parents/Carers, It has come to our attention that a number of our children are watching Squid Game on Netflix.

“We have noticed an increased number of children starting to play their own versions of this game in the playground – which in turn is causing conflict within friendship groups.

“Children who are watching this are being exposed to graphic realistic scenes of violence and sadly children are acting out these behaviours in the playground which will not be tolerated.

“It is not appropriate for primary school-aged children. Any child who mimics or demonstrates these behaviours, parents will be called upon and sanctions applied.

One of the student’s dads has responded to the letter on Twitter, according to The Mirror.

He reportedly tweeted: “Can’t believe my kids’ school has had to send a letter telling parents that kids are playing their own version of Squid Game and that parents will have sanctions applied if their kids mimic Squid Game.

“The popularity of this show is next level.”

In Squid Game, the contestants are showing playing a game called ‘Red Light, Green Light’. This game involves the players running towards the finish line before the time runs out. However, they have to freeze whenever ‘Red Light’ is called out.

If a contestant doesn’t manage to freeze in time, they will be eliminated from the game, but in the show, this also means the player is shot dead.

The series has been rated appropriate for viewers aged 15 and above by Netflix. A warning is issued at the beginning, stating that it contains sexual scenes, violence and suicide.
