People are raving about the drama online, with one fan penning: “It’s a show that will stay with you long after you’ve finished watching it, and it’s one that everyone should see.”

Another adds: “Sean Bean and Stephen Graham are beautifully cast, giving an acting masterclass in their respective roles, taking the viewers to places that would otherwise be truly uncomfortable and unbelievable had it been any other actor given the same roles.”

“10/10, I’m pretty sure this is the best programme I’ve seen come out of the BBC ever,” praises a third.

Somebody else says: “Just binged all episodes. Absolutely brilliant, was gripped all the way.”

Critics have also showered the series with praise.

Graeme Blundell wrote for the Sydney Morning Herald: “…Relentless, unnerving and urgent storytelling, TV drama that matters.”

In the Observer, Euan Ferguson echoed: “This was a triumph, if at times an appallingly hard watch. The casting didn’t hurt.”

The drama centers around Mark Cobden, portrayed by Bean, a schoolteacher whose life takes a tragic turn after a drunk driving accident claims the life of a cyclist.

Sentenced to prison, Cobden must adapt to the harsh realities of incarceration, facing intimidation from one of the prison’s most dangerous inmates.

His journey forces him to confront not only his bully but also the weight of his guilt.

Graham plays Eric McNally, a prison guard whose moral compass is tested when an inmate blackmails him, putting his family at risk.

The complex interplay between the characters provides a compelling narrative that delves deeply into themes of redemption, justice, and human resilience.

Lawrance delivers a powerful performance as Abi, a woman sentenced to life for murder.
