Expert Warns People Not To Cook Bacon In The Air Fryer
A food expert is warning people not to cook bacon in the air fryer.
The highly sought-after kitchen appliance has helped revolutionize people’s approach to cooking since it burst onto the scene in 2010.
The air fryer is now a staple in many homes and is the go-to for various cooking and baking tasks.
However, the air fryer does have its limitations, as one expert has warned.
Dietician Brenda Peralta, of FeastGood.com, has warned foodies to think twice before whipping up bacon using the device.
In an interview with Huffington Post, she said the meat is difficult to cook properly in the air fryer due to its fattiness.
The expert explained: “Bacon is a fatty food, and when it is cooked in an air fryer, the fat can drip down and cause smoke or splatter.
“This can make the bacon difficult to cook evenly, and it can also produce a lot of smoke and odors.”
You run the risk of getting food poisoning if the bacon is undercooked in some areas.
Food poisoning is a type of foodborne illness that people get from something they’ve eaten or drank.
Symptoms of food poisoning include an upset stomach, diarrhea, and vomiting, as per the Mayo Clinic.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that each year 48 million people in the U.S. get food poisoning, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die.
Any food type can cause food poisoning. It occurs when the food is not cooked or reheated thoroughly, stored correctly, left out for too long, eaten after its ‘sell by’ date, or handled by someone who’s ill or has not washed their hands.
Peralta also warned that as bacon strips are ‘small and delicate,’ it can be difficult to flip or remove from an air fryer basket without breaking it.
The expert also said it’s not a good idea to cook bacon in batches, adding: “The air fryer basket may not be large enough to accommodate a large quantity of bacon. This can make it difficult to cook a lot of bacon at once, which can be inconvenient if you are cooking for a group.”
