A controversial tea color chart is sparking debate among Brits online.

Tea is undeniably a staple of British culture, with millions of cups consumed across the U.K. each day.

But while the nation can agree on its love for tea, the question of how to prepare the perfect brew continues to spark debate, especially when it comes to its shade.

A viral TikTok video posted by comedian Limahl Germain has stirred the pot by showcasing a ‘tea color chart’ that categorizes tea by its shade, depending on how much milk is added.

His post quickly divided viewers, who passionately weighed in on their preferred tea tone.

Germain humorously recalled being handed what he described as a ‘number eight’ cup of tea, essentially hot milk with a splash of tea.

Outraged, he joked: “You can’t be trusted. I asked for a cup of tea and you brought me a cup of milk. Are you alright?”

He went on to say that while a ‘number one’ (black tea with no milk) is understandable, a ‘number two’ makes no sense to him.

“What is the point?” he asked, baffled by the near-black tea lightened with just a hint of milk.

According to Germain, options three and four are tolerable, but ‘four and five is how you should drink your tea.’

He declared: “I don’t care what anyone says, if you have milk in your tea, that’s how it should look.”

Germain’s assessment didn’t stop there – he claimed that number six is where ‘you’re crossing the line,’ though it might be acceptable for those specifically requesting a milky tea.

However, he drew a firm line at shades seven to nine: “You don’t like tea.”

Naturally, the video, which has been viewed thousands of times, ignited strong reactions.

One viewer declared: “5 is the only appropriate response. Anything else, and I know that you don’t like me.”

“I’m a 1, can’t stand milk, black tea all the way,” another added.

A third said: “5 I want. 4 I’ll accept. 6 I would reluctantly drink. Anything else needs to be thrown in the person’s face!”

There were also some personal backstories shared.

One tea drinker explained: “Number 2 for me – I can explain. I was off milk when I was pregnant! And you can’t dip a biscuit in 1 but 2 you can.”

Perhaps the most shocking confession came from someone who recalled a co-worker who made ‘number 9’ tea by pouring milk first, then hot water, and merely dipping the teabag in – an act the commenter said left them ‘forever appalled.’
