Monster Munch fans have been left stunned after realizing what the ‘foot’ shaped potato chip actually is.

A viral TikTok discovery has left snack lovers questioning everything they thought they knew about Monster Munch, sparking fierce debate across social media about the true form of the UK‘s beloved corn snack.

The controversy erupted when TikTok user Tiffany shared a mind-bending revelation about the iconic snack, known for its distinctive shape and popular flavours including Pickled Onion and Roast Beef.

In her viral video, she demonstrated how a simple flip of perspective completely transforms what many have always seen as a foot into something entirely different.

The revelation caught the attention of food content creator @FoodWithASB, who expressed bewilderment at the discovery.

Reflecting on his childhood memories of the snack, particularly the Pickled Onion variety, he admitted his assumptions had been completely wrong.

“If you’ve eaten a Monster Munch before you’ll know that you always ate them this way up, it looks like a foot or a claw or something,” he explained in his response video. “Wrong.”

People have a lot to say on the matter

The viral videos have triggered passionate responses from snack enthusiasts, with opinions sharply divided. Many viewers expressed shock at the alternative interpretation, while others remained steadfast in their original beliefs.

“They’re claws,” one commenter insisted, refusing to accept the new perspective. Another viewer declared their resistance to change: “I refused to believe that my childhood has been ruined.”

The debate has extended beyond TikTok, with similar discussions appearing on platforms like Reddit, where users have long debated the snack’s intended shape.

One user dismissed the new interpretation entirely, declaring: “They’re still just feet though. They can try and convince us as much as they want. It’s fact,” while another commented that the snacks function like ‘a knuckle duster for a child’s finger.’

The confusion even extended to packaging, with one user arguing that ‘on the front of the bag they’re upside down like feet, settled.’

The controversial theory explained

“POV you spent your whole childhood thinking Monster Munch were giant feet, to be told they’re actual monsters,” Tiffany captioned her clip, initially holding the snack to resemble a foot with four toes before rotating it to reveal what appears to be a creature with a head, arms, and legs.

@FoodWithASB claims: “We were all wrong. It turns out if you turn them upside down ,they are just a full-on monster. It actually makes so much sense. I don’t know why I’ve never seen that before.”

The ongoing controversy isn’t new to Walkers, the manufacturer behind Monster Munch. In 2020, the company took the unusual step of officially settling the debate through a democratic social media poll that attracted over 60,000 participants.

The results were decisive: the ‘Claw’ interpretation emerged victorious, officially establishing the snack’s canonical shape.

Will Robinson from Walkers Snacks acknowledged the significance of the long-running debate at the time to The Mirror.

“Claw or Monster is a debate that has continued to divide British opinion as much as whether or not you put jam or cream on your scone first, or whether that famous dress was gold or blue,” Robinson explained.

“Therefore we felt it was only right to settle the debate once and for all, through launching our ‘Monster’ and ‘Claw’ shaped packs and asking the fans to decide – and now they have spoken.”

Following the poll results, Robinson made the official declaration: “So moving forwards it won’t be open to debate – they are officially ‘claw’ shaped forever more. Or until our innovation team gets restless, at least.”
