A ‘disrespectful’ comment aired on Fox News about the disappearance of Gabby Petito, the YouTuber who vanished while travelling with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, has gone viral on TikTok.
American journalist Raymond Arroyo caused outrage when he said the coverage of her disappearance was a ‘huge distraction’ to political issues in the US.
“With all that’s happening in the world, what’s happening in our southern border and abroad and at home, I think this entire story is a huge distraction, forgive me,” he said.

He added: “This is like a Lifetime movie, an ongoing mini-series for America but I think it’s basically a local story, it’s a missing person.
“I hope they get to the bottom of it, but I do worry we’re spending way too much time on this case.”
Speaking over him in the viral TikTok clip, a woman, known as Megan S’mor, can then be heard saying: “What this reporter says about the Gabby Petito case, how rude!”
“Why is he smirking like that?”
“What happened to Gabby Petito is awful, how can he say that?”
Users on the platform were quick to share their anger, with one saying: “He wouldn’t be saying that if it was his daughter missing.”
Another added: “It’s bringing light to domestic violence that’s why he’s uncomfortable talking about it.”

However, some users pointed out that Petito was one of many missing people in the US and wanted to know why she was ‘getting so much coverage’.

One person wrote: “Insensitive? Yes. But what about all the other missing people, he’s not wrong.”
The clip was shared after a body, ‘matching her description,’ was found in National Park in Wyoming.
The blogger was last seen in August when she went on a road trip with Laundrie, who has refused to cooperate with police investigations. His whereabouts is currently unknown.
