An upcoming Gabby Petito film has sparked an uproar on social media.

The Lifetime movie, which is currently titled The Gabby Petito Story, will recreate what happened when the 22-year-old YouTuber went missing in September 2021.

Since people have spotted the actors filming scenes out in Salt Lake City, Utah, it’s been branded ‘inappropriate’ and ‘ill-timed’.

Find out about the lawsuit Gabby Petito’s parents filed against Brian Laundrie’s below…

On Twitter, one penned: “Just saw a commercial for a Lifetime channel movie about Gabby Petito’s murder. That poor girl’s body hasn’t even been in the ground for a year and there’s already a goddamn film.

“Vultures. No one cares about a domestic violence victim unless there’s a way to make money off her corpse.”

In agreement, a second added: “I truly hate true crime so much. They make documentaries and movies so quickly now. It’s sick.”

“It is quite unpleasant that despite the fact that Gabby Petito’s parents did not approve to make the film, @lifetimetv continued with the project,” a third wrote. “This family still mourns their daughter and you only think about making money at her expense. I think we should do something about it.”

Pitching in, a fourth said: “Any movies for the countless murdered and missing indigenous women at the same rate as these?

“Nope. I can’t stand what has become of the true-crime community. What started as a genuine interest developed into creepy objectification and obsession.”

Last year, the Long Island native went missing when out on a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.

On September 19, Petito’s body was found on a camping ground. Around this time, her partner disappeared and a nationwide manhunt was launched.

Eventually, Laundrie’s body was also discovered near a Florida swamp. Reportedly, he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
