A Game of Thrones star has revealed they were sectioned after being ‘lured’ into a cult.
Hannah Murray, now 35, found fame by playing Cassie Ainsworth in the teen comedy-drama Skins.
The actress found further success after joining GOT in 2012, in which she played Gilly. Introduced in season two, she became a stand-out character from season three onwards.
Now, Murray has shocked fans by opening up about her ‘deeply personal’ past, which involved being sectioned.
The Bookseller says Murray’s forthcoming memoir, ‘The Make-Believe,’ will explore the star’s experience of being ‘lured’ into a wellness cult.
Publication firm Hutchinson Heinemann said: “This is the story of the blurred line between what is real, and what is an illusion; what we must accept and what we wish to be true; between solid earth beneath your feet and a world where anything is possible if you only commit.
“It is about the lure of those that tell us they can save us, and the deceptive structure of organizations that promise us ‘wellness.’
“It’s about the acting world, but also about the way all of us act, hiding our vulnerabilities from everyone except the people trained to prey on them.”
Murray added: “‘The Make-Believe’ tells a deeply personal story that has lived inside me for many years and which it now feels vital to share. I could not be more thrilled to be working with Helen Conford, whose vision for the book aligns perfectly with mine.
“I’m grateful to Helen and the whole team at Hutchinson Heinemann for their belief in this book and its story, and I can’t wait to start working together.”
Murray’s story, which began in 2017, isn’t fully known. However, it’s expected her memoir will explore the TV star’s past in close detail.
Murray took a break from acting in 2019 to pursue an English Literature degree at Queen’s College, Cambridge University.
The actress explained her decision during an appearance on the U.K. daytime TV show Loose Women.
“I just wanted to do it. I really loved literature and I wanted to take a bit of time out from the industry. I’ve got friends who are doctors and lawyers. I think an English degree really helps with acting,” she said.
Murray described GOT‘s final season as being like the ‘end of school’ for her, adding: “I’m going to miss going to work with them every day.”
