Johnny Wactor’s cause of death has been confirmed.
Wactor was an American actor best known for playing Brando Corbin in the soap opera General Hospital.
He also played Johnny in 11 episodes of the TV series Siberia, among other roles.
Earlier this week, it was tragically revealed that Wactor had died aged 37.
Tributes have flooded in for the US star over on X (formerly Twitter), with one fan writing: “RIP Johnny Wactor. You were wonderful on General Hospital. Can’t believe you’re gone.”
A second person pens: “So heartbreaking and horrific. RIP Johnny Wactor. You did not deserve that.”
“This is unbelievably tragic, RIP Johnny Wactor,” comments another. “My thoughts go out to all the people that knew and loved him.”
Somebody else says: “Please pray for Johnny Wactor and his family… I loved him and will miss him forever.”
Wactor’s untimely passing was confirmed by his mother Scarlett.
She told TMZ that the Supercell star was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The star’s younger brother, Grant, spoke to Daily Mail and revealed that Wactor had been walking a female co-worker to their vehicles when the tragedy unfolded.
Three men were reportedly stood beside the actor’s car.
“He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed,” he explained. “So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’ And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his co-worker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”
Wactor’s friend, Colin Flynn, told ABC News: “From what I understand, Johnny literally stood in between himself and his colleague. And the shooter just pulled the trigger and ran away.”
Wactor would be pronounced dead at the hospital.
The actor’s mother also told NBC4 that the trio was attempting to steal the car’s catalytic converter – a popular target for thieves.
Police report that the three unidentified suspects wore dark clothes and were driving a dark sedan.
Following the devastating reports of Wactor’s death, the star’s ex-fiancée, Tessa Farrell, has spoken out, saying the suspects ‘shot the wrong guy’.
In a tearful video on social media, Farrell said: “If the person who did this, if you’re watching, I’m sorry, but you shot the wrong guy. You can get a real job. I know the job market’s hard but we’re all in it together.”
She added: “You don’t have to steal – especially take a life over it.”
Elsewhere in the video, Wactor’s ex-fiancée said she and the star were ‘just better as friends’ and she ‘will always love him’.
She also pleaded for stricter laws in Los Angeles.
Wactor’s family has slammed the video – they tell TMZ that although Farrell’s heart may be in the right place, she shouldn’t be talking about it.
His mother tells the outlet that the former couple dated years ago and they didn’t stay in touch, she estimates they hadn’t spoken for two to three years.
Amid the controversy, Wactor’s cause of death has officially been confirmed.
