Clooney was a guest on the 20th-anniversary episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he was one of the first stars to appear on the show.

Kimmel went through young photos of the Three Kings star and Snoop Dogg – who was also a guest on the show.

After mocking Clooney’s haircut from when he was 13 years old, he showed a photo of the Batman & Robin actor when he was 15.

Clooney then interrupted the host saying that he wanted to point something out on the photo before Kimmel made a joke.

“I had Bell’s palsy then and half of my face is paralysed,” he reveals.

Clooney then proceeds to cover half of the photo to show the audience the effect it had on his appearance.

He then urges ‘funny man’ Kimmel to make his joke but the host says he didn’t have a joke – and that Clooney has brought everyone down.

According to the NHS, Bell’s palsy is a ‘temporary weakness or lack of movement affecting one side of the face’.

Although, unlike a stroke, facial strength gradually returns and most people make a full recovery within nine months.

Speaking to ABC, his father, Nick Clooney, spoke about his son’s condition in greater detail, adding that his face was half paralysed for several weeks – but some remnants of the disease lasted for months.

“It certainly affected him at the time,” he explained.

“But even there, George would find ways with humour to make it work for him. He would make fun of himself. He always did that.

“He tried to make fun of himself before others made fun of him, no matter what the disability might be.”
