Impact wrestling star Gisele Shaw has come out as transgender.
The 33-year-old, whose real name is Gisele Mayordo, said that she has decided to speak up in order to help her and others with their journey.
She told the San Francisco Chronicle: “There is really no perfect time to be coming out. It’s my journey. Now just felt right for me.”
Shaw reportedly came out during Toronto Pride and explained that her Filipino heritage played a big part in her deciding to tell her story.
“Coming from an Asian background, being the oldest, there was an unsaid rule, the expectation was that I would carry the family name, that I would set an example, that I would take care of my sister,” she said.
The wrestling star has also opened up to her Instagram followers about the announcement.
Alongside photos of her standing beside the Pride symbol, she wrote: “Authenticity: the courage to be yourself!
“Thank you everyone for the overwhelming love and support! You all have turned a very scary moment for me into an incredible one! Love you all! HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!”
Shaw’s post has received more than a thousand likes and hundreds have taken to the comments and sent well wishes.
“You are such an inspiration!” one gushed. “I cannot wait to see you in action next!!! You have made us proud! You got this!”
Another added: “I’m glad you felt confident enough to share with the world! You should have been able to long before but I hope this gives you peace and helps you find serenity in life’s journey!”
“You’re a role model and inspiration to so many people. You’re an awesome person and always so friendly when I see you at shows. You’re the best,” a third commented.
