Gogglebox has confirmed that five stars have left ahead of its new series.
As the Channel 4 programme has sadly lost three members of its cast in recent months, some of their family members have made the difficult decision to also end their time on the show, in order to have some ‘privacy’.
Gogglebox’s executive producer, Victoria Ray, told the Daily Star: “We have had people from the show pass away recently.
“We lost Mary and Andy, and a little while ago we lost Pete. Their loved ones won’t be taking part in the show for the moment. Understandably, they want their privacy.”
She added that all the stars that have decided to exit the programme will always be welcomed back if they want to.
Back in June, Gogglebox fans were left devastated when it was reported that Pete McGarry, 71, had passed away. He starred on the show alongside his beloved wife Linda, who has decided she will no longer take part.
This was then followed by the tragic news of Mary Cook who passed away aged 92. She and her best friend Marina – who is also exiting the programme – won over the nation’s hearts with their friendship.
Most recently, it was confirmed that Andy Michael, 61, had died following a short illness. He appeared on the show alongside his wife, Carolyne, and two of their kids, Alex and Louis. None of the family will be returning for the latest season.
At the National Television Awards earlier this month, Gogglebox’s Julie Malone accepted an award on behalf of the show and also made a tearful speech.
She said: “On behalf of the Gogglebox family, I would just like to say a massive thanks for this award and on a sadder note, I’d like to dedicate it to all the people we’ve lost over the last 18 months.
“Andy, Pete, Mary and everybody’s favourite grandma June who has been reunited with Leon.”
