Gogglebox star Paige Deville has branded her mum, Sally, who featured on the show alongside her, a ‘disgrace’ on social media.

The 25-year-old quit the Channel 4 programme last month ‘due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of their actions and opinions and zero aftercare support’. However, she’s claimed the fallout with her mother isn’t anything to do with the hit series.

Taking to Twitter, she said: “To clarify, people thinking I fell out with my mom over Gogglebox, My ‘mom’ is an absolute disgrace who I wish to never speak to again due to a serious family issue NOT about a TV show.”

The pair, from Birmingham, gave viewers plenty of laughs during their time on the programme, but it appears their relationship has now turned sour.

Deville was recently blasted by Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder, who appears on the celebrity version of the show, in an interview with the Daily Express.

Hitting back at her tweet, he questioned: “No support about what? What do you need support for?

“Is she a bit of a snowflake or whatever they are called or woke? What the f*** do you need support for on f***** Gogglebox for f***s sake.”

On Twitter, she replied: “In regards to Shaun, that’s exactly what I meant by support to deal with trolls like you.”

She also spoke about the ‘hidden pressures’ of being on TV, including feeling ‘nervous about how you come across’ to three million viewers.

Channel 4 has responded to the claims that no aftercare support is provided to contributors.

A spokesperson said: “The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”

Justifying her reasons for tweeting about the issues, Deville said: “These are just a few things I felt needed to be aired about real issues being on a reality show.

“I have never been so happy and free since deciding to leave and that chapter is now closed but felt I have had to justify myself as people are still commenting.”
