A ‘mysterious’ green goblin was the talk of an awards show red carpet this week, with fans everywhere guessing who it could be…

At this week’s Emmy Awards, one person’s look on the red carpet absolutely stole the show.

But it wasn’t because of a stunningly glamorous gown.

Rather, it was an incredible makeup SFX look complete with custom body paint, which transformed the mysterious celebrity into a terrifying green goblin.

The internet was rife with speculation as to who it was underneath the impressive costuming.

And now, the green goblin has spoken out about her controversial look – including why she did it …

Initially, people thought the goblin must be Heidi Klum, who’s infamous in Hollywood for her extravagant Halloween costumes.

One asked on social media: “Uh… why is there a green goblin on the red carpet just doing her thing like its no big deal? #Emmys.”

But it turns out, the look was actually courtesy of a RuPaul’s Drag Race alum.

People on X, formerly known as Twitter, were loving the look, with one saying: “I love drag what do you mean the green goblin is at the Emmys.”

The goblin in question was confirmed to be Princess Poppy, the second eliminated queen from the show’s fifteenth season.

Following her elimination, Princess Poppy confirmed she was quitting drag, telling Entertainment Weekly: “I want to fall off the face of the planet. I don’t want to be famous, I want to fade into obscurity.”

So it was quite a surprise to see her trolling the public with a very attention-grabbing appearance at one of TV’s biggest nights of the year this week.

“I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this,” Poppy tells EW while on the red carpet.

“I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head. Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag.”

She concludes: “I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me – in the worst way possible.”

And it seems as though the look was well-received by fans.

“Princess Poppy dressing up as a green goblin at the Emmys is the best thing that happened so far this year,” one raves.

Princess Poppy gave credit to the genius artist behind the makeup, Gabe Acero, explaining the meticulous process behind her eye-catching appearance.

She also opened up about the look to Byrdie, saying: “The concept of being a public figure is absurd, but more absurd than that is the immense amounts of pressure on people, mostly women, to retain an unrealistic level of ‘youth and physical attractiveness’.

“I know many people that go to great lengths to rid themselves of their wrinkles or their self-perceived flaws – myself included – but I thought f*** that. I want to accentuate my wrinkles and flaws so much that the people in the parking lot can see them.”
