Greggs has launched a vegan bacon roll as a part of its autumn menu, but it’s not gone down well with the store’s meat-eaters.
Since the fast-food chain confirmed the news, people have been taking to social media and comparing the most recent addition to ‘dog treats’.
One person tweeted: “Jesus Christ. ‘I don’t want to eat meat but will eat something that looks and tastes like it’. Why?”
Another added: “Greggs’ vegan bacon! It looks like a dog treat!”
“Vegan bacon and sausage? Please tell me you’re still doing REAL bacon and sausage too?!” a third commented.
However, many vegan customers are delighted with the new addition and think it’s about time they had more plant-based options available.
One said: “It’s great to see there are so many vegan/veggie choices available now. When I went veggie 25 years ago, there was hardly anything.”
Pitching in, a second wrote: “This is excellent news, I can’t wait to try one. Glad, thought I was hallucinating vegan bacon rolls.”
Made from Quorn sausage, the plant-based addition will set customers back £1.90.
As well as the vegan bacon roll, Greggs has also brought back its much-loved pumpkin spiced latte.
Described by the chain as a ‘delicious autumnal beverage,’ it became available to order on August 25, beating its rivals.
Made with 100 percent Fairtrade ground beans, the latte costs £1.95. It also contains a double shot of Espresso and ‘sweet pumpkin spice’ flavoured syrup.
Greggs Customer Director commented: “The return of the fan-favourite Pumpkin Spice Latte to our menu will no doubt delight our customers nationwide.
“Coffee is exceptionally popular among our customers and we’re excited to be bringing back another delicious offering to our extensive range.”
