Greta Thunberg has slammed fast fashion in an interview with Vogue.
The 18-year-old said the industry needs to take responsibility for the ‘huge’ impact it is having on climate change.
Announcing the cover on social media, she said: “The fashion industry is a huge contributor to the climate and ecological emergency.

“Even more so at the expense of countless workers and communities who are being exploited around the world in order for some to enjoy fast fashion that many treat as disposables.
“Many make it look as if the fashion industry is starting to take responsibility, spending fantasy amounts on campaigns portraying themselves as ‘sustainable,’ ‘ethical,’ ‘green,’ ‘climate neutral’ or ‘fair’. But let’s be clear: This is almost never anything but pure greenwash.
“You cannot mass produce fashion or consume ‘sustainably’ as the world is shaped today. That is one of the many reasons why we will need a system change.”
Many of her supporters have flooded the post with messages of praise.
One person wrote: “YES!! Fast fashion needs to #PayUp and luxury fashion is by no means exempt from the devastation that the textile industry is causing both people and planet.”
A second added: “Great post! The fashion industry does contribute to the climate crisis. I was asked to be part of a campaign for a really popular brand sold worldwide and I turned it down because the brand is fast fashion and not green like they portray. I won’t accept money to help them greenwash their brand.”
A third wrote: “So true! Fast fashion needs to change for good. It is polluting our already hurt natural environment and at a very fast pace.”
Others praised Vogue for providing Thunberg with such a huge platform to spread her message.
“Amazing that Vogue is allowing its platform to be a place wherein the negative impact of the fashion industry can be discussed. Amazing work Greta,” a reader responded.
