US Congressman Sean Casten’s daughter, Gwen, has tragically died, aged 17. 

A statement via Twitter confirming the heartbreaking news was released by her father’s office on June 14.

It read: “This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen (17), passed away.

“The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time.”

So far, the cause of death has yet to be confirmed. After the tragic news was disclosed, hundreds paid tribute.

Sharing a series of pictures of the 17-year-old, one wrote: “There are no words that can begin to describe the loss we are feeling.

“Gwen, founder and leader of Empowerment Club, was cherished by all. Her hard work, determination, and beautiful personality were inspirations to everyone. She was so loved, and her incredible impact will live forever within our community.

“Thank you Gwen, for everything you have done to influence our lives and fill them with love and positivity. You were truly a force to be reckoned with. We will miss you.”

Another added: “May God hold her family and friends and all that loved her extra tight right now… May God welcome Gwen into his heavenly arms.”

“Sending love from California!” a third penned. “She is gone too soon. But the impact she has left will live on forever. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.”

Gwen Casten was the leader of an ’empowerment group’ at Downers Grove North High School in Illinois, which she attended.

She recently appeared in a campaign advert for her father’s re-election, in which she discussed turning 18 years old.

The teen said: “Lots of milestones. Like voting for the first time. But not just for anyone… Sean Casten. My Congressman. But I just call him dad.”
