Henry Cavill has responded to ‘Twilight’ author Stephenie Meyer calling him the ‘perfect’ Edward.

The Man of Steel star, who has recently been replaced by Liam Hemsworth for Season Four of The Witcher, is typically cast as the heartthrob in whatever he appears.

So it doesn’t come as any surprise that Meyer had envisioned Cavill as the sparkling mind-reading vampire when typing up her bestselling franchise.

Of course, the role eventually went to Robert Pattinson, and it’s hard to imagine it any different. However, it’s interesting to see what the original vision had been.

Meyer revealed her dream Edward in a 2007 post on her website, titled ‘Twilight Movie Updates’.

Find out why Robert Pattinson didn’t ‘fit in’ with his friends after his success with ‘Twilight’…

The author penned: “The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward. Henry Cavill is now twenty four years old.”

She continued: “Indisputably the most difficult character to cast, Edward is also the one that I’m most passionately decided upon.

“The only actor I’ve ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen is….(drumroll)…. Henry Cavill.”

It’s worth noting that this wasn’t Meyer being shady, as this was before Pattinson was cast in the role.

When the Batman star was officially announced, she commented on her blog: “I am ecstatic with Summit’s choice for Edward.

“There are very few actors who can look both dangerous and beautiful at the same time, and even fewer who I can picture in my head as Edward.

“Robert Pattinson is going to be amazing.”

Years later, the Enola Holmes star has finally responded to Meyer’s original dream cast and shockingly, he said it would have ‘been cool’.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill referenced a potential rivalry with Pattinson, saying: “Not at all because I didn’t know about the movie.”

He added: “I didn’t know about them wanting to cast me and the internet wasn’t quite the tool that it is now and so I only found out afterwards.

“I was like, ‘Oh OK, that would have been cool’.”

After hearing that Cavill could have been Edward, many Twilight fans have took to Twitter and said they’re glad this didn’t happen.

“I respect it, but I’m also glad it didn’t happen,” one tweeted.

Another added: “It’s OK Henry anyways, Robert Pattinson slayed portraying Edward Cullen.”

Making a cheeky dig at the latest Witcher news, a third joked: “But then he would’ve dropped out by the third movie and we would’ve gotten Liam Hemsworth.”

However, others said that they had to agree with Meyer’s original vision and that Cavill would have been the ‘perfect’ Edward.

One fumed: “Henry Cavill is so much better looking than Robert Pattinson.

“Being true to the book, wherein Bella raves about Edward Cullen being the most beautiful man she had ever seen, Henry Cavill would have more closely fit that description.

“My daughter and I were so disappointed.”

Alongside a ton of heart eye emojis, a second gushed: “When I learned that he was the author’s inspiration for Edward, when I read the ‘Twilight Saga’ and recently ‘Midnight Sun’, I imagined Henry Cavill as Edward.”
