This Morning fans feared Holly Willoughby had ‘been crying’ after she and Phillip Schofield faced fierce backlash for allegedly ‘queue jumping’ to see the Queen lying in state.

Willoughby, 41, seemed emotional at the beginning of Wednesday’s episode after criticism continued over the allegations, The Sun reports.

She and Schofield have both strongly denied the allegations – but a petition to sack the duo has now gained more than 54,000 signatures.

One This Morning viewer tweeted: “Holly looks like she’s been crying before going on air.”

Another wrote: “Holly has never been so quiet. I don’t envy anyone in the public eye.”

“Is Holly OK?” a third asked. “She’s not looking herself.”

“Holly completely not herself,” wrote a fourth.

The award-winning presenters used media passes to get into Westminster Hall – where the Queen was lying-in-state – on Friday while celebrities including the likes of David Beckham and Susanna Reid queued for up to 14 hours with other mourning members of the public.

The fiasco wasn’t mentioned on Wednesday’s instalment of the daytime programme but the petition to axe them has currently gained more than 54,000 signatures.

It was only when This Morning went live today at around 10am that Willoughby appeared ‘not herself’.

According to The Sun, Willoughby and Schofield have spoken to lawyers following the devastating backlash from the media and members of the public.

An alleged source close to Willoughby reportedly told the news outlet: “She’s utterly devastated. It’s been an incredibly tough few days.”

The This Morning presenters addressed the allegations that they were ‘too posh to queue’ on their show yesterday, during which Willoughby said they attended as accredited broadcasters, explaining: “It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions who weren’t able to visit in person.”
