Willoughby, 42, and Schofield, 61, presented the popular daytime TV show together for over 13 years.

This all came to an end when Willoughby’s co-host announced that he was leaving the programme ‘with immediate effect’.

Shortly afterwards, Schofield shared a bombshell statement in which he revealed he had previously been having an affair with a ‘much younger’ colleague on the show.

The presenter has since spoken out in an interview with the BBC and said that he has ‘lost everything’ while asking: “Do you want me to die?”

Elsewhere in the discussion, Schofield confirmed that Willoughby ‘did not know’ about his affair with their fellow colleague and that to his knowledge, ‘nobody knew’.

He said: “Our makeup room was a sanctuary so you tell everything in that room.

“Holly knows everything about me, I know everything about Holly. Holly did not know, nobody knew. I didn’t tell anybody.”

And now Willoughby has finally spoken out and had her say on Schofield’s scandal.

After taking some time away from the show, she has come back to reveal that she is feeling ‘let down’ by her former co-host.

Tearfully, Willoughby says: “I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on, and full of questions.

“You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved.

“That is a lot to process.

“And it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health.

“I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal for the health and wellbeing of everyone.”

Willoughby continues: “I hope as we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.

“From our hearts, can I just say thank you for all your kind messages and thank you for being here This Morning.”

She goes on to say that the team will ‘work hard every single day to bring you the show that you love’.

According to The Sun, an insider says Schofield will not be watching Willoughby’s return to the daytime TV show as it’s too upsetting for him.

The source tells the outlet: “He physically could not watch – he’s not there yet.

“Even listening to the opening credits would be hugely triggering.”

They go on to say that despite this, Schofield wants Willoughby to ‘shine and smash it’.
