Iceland has launched the UK’s hottest supermarket burger.
The quarter pounder, which costs £2.50 for a pack of four, includes a Carolina Reaper.
On the Scoville scale, it actually hits 2.2 million units, making it the world’s hottest chilli pepper. To make it even clearer, it’s 200 times spicier than a jalapeño.
Instead of blending the burger with chilli, the supermarket has made it slightly easier for us to endure by adding it as a topping.
However, head chef David Lennox insists that the hotness won’t take away from the juiciness of the burger and people should still be able to enjoy the intense flavours.
The beef burger comes after Iceland’s popular Carolina Reaper range that took social media by storm.
Many were keen to try the new release, as foodies were determined to take on the challenge.
Some have already left reviews for the burger online, insisting it doesn’t ‘disappoint’.
One shopper gave it five stars, writing: “Totally lovely – if you like hot food they are great.”
Another added: “Thought I’d give these a try, my partner loves spicy food…. He wasn’t disappointed! They pack a punch and are really tasty! It’s a slow-building burn too!”
A third wrote: “I love hot and spicy food so had to add a quick five-star review for these. They look pretty innocuous out of the box… Don’t be fooled, the amusing warning on the box means business.
“Cooked four to eat in two separate buns. The first two were slow-burn but very tasty and spicy, really nice burgers with a twist. Next two WOW, boy oh boy did they live up to the warning… and some very easy five stars.”
