Idris Elba has confirmed that a Luther movie will be happening and apparently, it’s already in the works.
At the Bafta TV Awards, reporters asked the actor whether or not a Luther movie would be happening.
In response, he said he believes it’s ‘heading towards’ the possibility.
The 47-year-old said: “I’ve maintained I’d like to see it come to a film, and that is where I think we are heading towards – a film.
“And I’m looking forward to making that happen. It is happening.”
He added: “With film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines. And a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
Although there have never been any ‘formal plans’ for another series, Idris says there have been discussions about turning the show into a blockbuster motion picture.
He told Sky News: “I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film.
“And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.”
Having been a huge success for the BBC, Luther ran for five series between 2010 and 2019.
