Jada Pinkett Smith, who told Will Smith she ‘never wanted to marry him,’ said she’s a terrified girl’ under her ‘strong’ exterior.

The actress became emotional in the latest episode of Red Table Talk, where she opened up about her childhood and how she felt ‘bottled up’.

Addressing the show’s panel, which included daughter Willow Smith, the mum-of-two claimed: “I had to deal with a lot of stressful, adult things at a young age. I didn’t have the ability to deal with the emotions that were coming with it.

“I just had to ‘buck up’.

“And so those women you see that you think are so strong, there’s this terrified little girl underneath. And that’s me.”

At this point, the panel became silent and Pinkett Smith appeared to be tearful.

Sympathetically, Willow Smith told her mum: “Oh mommy, this is why we do the work.”

Pitching in, panellist and author Kelly McDaniel added: “It’s part of the journey.”

Elsewhere in the discussion, Pinkett Smith’s mum, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, mentioned their relationship over the years.

She said: “Very rarely will you see Jada and I even touch… Hug, you know.”

In agreement, the actress commented: “And if we do, it’s awkward.”

Banfield-Norris then clarified that her family knew they were ‘loved’ despite this, adding: “We knew we were loved. But it just wasn’t that kind of nurturing touch.”

Pinkett Smith’s mum went on to reference her relationship with Willow Smith, and how the singer would always want ‘cuddle and sleep’ with the family growing up.

The 21-year-old acknowledged this, agreeing that Banfield-Norris would ‘sleep with’ her and that they would cuddle ‘a lot’.

In response, Pinkett Smith remarked: “She never cuddled with me.”

Referencing this, Banfield-Norris said: “It felt so good to be able to have that. And I never had it. When I had it with you [Willow], then I missed it with Jada. I realised how much I missed with her.”
