Gavin & Stacey has a Christmas special coming, as confirmed by James Cordon.
The co-creator of the hit BBC comedy-drama shared a snap of the Xmas script, alongside the caption: “Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while… We’re excited to share it with you. See you on Christmas Day.”
So far, the tweet has been favourited over 80,000 times and retweeted nearly by over 30,000 fans.
Viewers of the show have expressed their delight at the show’s return, taking to social media to celebrate.
One person said: “Finding out about the new #GavinAndStacey Christmas special (genuinely the happiest news I’ve heard in a while).”
Another added: “My whole house will be getting ready for the new Gavin & Stacey Christmas special all Christmas Day.”
The plot of the special has been kept tightly under wraps but according to Ruth Jones, she and Cordon have ‘loved revisiting Barry and Essex’.
Speaking to the BBC Press Office, Jones said: “Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like.
“And so in secret, we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.
“We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you, BBC for helping to make this happen.”
Gavin & Stacey originally aired back in 2007 and became a BAFTA-award winning hit, telling the story of the long-distance relationship of Gavin, from Essex, and Stacey, from Wales.
