Jeremy Clarkson has found himself caught up in an ‘Instagram scam,’ warning his followers about an account purporting to be him.

The former Top Gear presenter tweeted his concern about an account on the platform using the handle @jeremyclarksonprivate1, which also claimed in the bio that he would ‘not accept followers’.

Clarkson tweeted: “If you are sent this, ignore it. It’s not me.”

Unfortunately, more than 24,000 people have already fallen for the sham account, prompting the Clarkson’s Farm star to clear up any confusion.

An avid social media user, Clarkson is no stranger to online controversy, landing himself in hot water recently over a tweet about climate change in the midst of a UK heatwave.

He wrote: “I’ve spent my life working in extreme heat and we survived by having a beer under a tree. Climate change is real. Drink more beer.”

One user snapped: “Yeah let’s laugh about climate change.”

Replying to the outraged follower, Clarkson said: “We should laugh about anything we want. Now go and sit under a tree and have a cold beer.”

“A bit suspicious that the person who would have had a massive negative impact on the environment if climate change is real, chooses not to believe in climate change,” one user replied.

Although many were furious with Clarkson’s light-hearted approach to the climate change discussion, some jumped to his defence.

One fan wrote: “All those moaning about the heat in the UK are the very same people that pay £££ to go abroad on holiday to enjoy nice weather so go figure that one.

“This heat is called summer time let’s embrace it and enjoy it like Jeremy Clarkson said, with a cold beer.”

Undeterred by any criticism, the 62-year-old joked about the government’s reaction to the heatwave, tweeting: “It’s very hot in the south of France but so far as I know, there’s no DefCon 8 level 3 killer death heatwave warning in place.”
