The ‘I Wanna Love You Forever’ singer’s appearance has been subject to discussion in recent times, with many fans left concerned about her health – especially as she has been open about her previous battles with alcohol and pills.
Documenting that she has been sober for six years, Simpson recently took to Instagram and left fans surprised with a snap that she originally uploaded in 2021.
In the post, the ‘Take My Breath Away’ artist is seen wearing a pink tracksuit and staring into the distance.
She penned: “This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017, is an unrecognisable version of myself. I had so much self-discovery to unlock and explore.
“I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.
“Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted.”

The Dukes of Hazzard actress explained that she needed to stop drinking as it ‘exhausted’ her to have her ‘mind and heart circling in the same direction’.
“I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honour,” she continued.
“I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward – never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”
Many fans commented on Simpson’s post and congratulated her, with one fan saying: “So inspiring, this is beauty, this is courage.”
“Good for you. And brave for posting,” pens a second.
Someone else adds: “You are an amazing woman… strong and so talented. Thank you for sharing this.”
“So impressed with you you are amazing and you will do well,” writes a fourth.
Simpson made the decision to give up alcohol in October 2017 after not being there for her children on Halloween.
Speaking to Today in 2020, she recalled that she was ‘dazed and confused’ and didn’t even take her three children – Maxwell, Ace and Birdie, who she shares with former NFL played Eric Johnson – trick or treating.
“I didn’t show up for my family. I took the picture and I made the world think that I showed up,” she said.
This was the turning point in Simpson’s life as the next day she started working with a therapist.

The Employee of the Month star went on to lose 100 pounds after getting sober and has admitted drinking wasn’t her issue but that she suffered from a lack of self-love and self-worth.
In her 2020 memoir ‘Open Book’, Simpson revealed that she started consuming pills and alcohol during her relationship with John Mayer – which was shortly following her divorce from Nick Lachey.
“He was so clever and treated conversation like a friendly competition that he had to win,” she wrote (via Page Six).
“When I tried to leap back in and say something to add to the dialogue he was having with himself, he would challenge what I said and I’d get quiet.
“I was so afraid of disappointing him that I couldn’t even text him without having someone check my grammar and spelling.”
Simpson then explained that she would start to rely on alcohol to ‘mask’ her nerves around him.
