JK Rowling, whose International Women’s Day post faced a backlash, is being slammed for her ‘offensive’ comments about trans prisoners.

It all started when the ‘Harry Potter’ author took to Twitter and reposted an article with the headline: ‘This is a nightmare: Female Inmate Speaks Out Against Trans-Identifying Male Transfers’.

Commenting on the piece, Rowling penned: “Vulnerable and traumatised women pay the highest price for luxury beliefs. These are the real-world consequences of redefining woman to include the penised.”

Following this, the 56-year-old included a quote from the blog that read: “’We feel like we are part of some sick joke. This is a nightmare that we can’t wake up from’.”

Taking issue with the authenticity of the post, one user penned: “Today JK Rowling tweeted out the article below. In many ways, it is her usual transphobia, but the source, it’s from, and the way the article is written require further examination.

“So what we have here is JK Rowling, tweeting a post by an unknown blog, with an implicit anti-trans bias, written by people with explicit anti-trans bias, that is based on a single source, and has not even provided a comment from the correctional facility in question.”

“And what can you tell us about the source of this article?” asked a second. “Do you have any idea about the safeguards and procedures in place before any trans woman or non-binary person can be housed in a female prison in the UK?”

“Grotesque,” fumed a third. “When have you ever spoken out about prison safety, apart from to attack trans people? Violence in prisons, especially against already marginalised groups, is endemic and mostly perpetrated by guards and cisgender inmates.”

However, not everyone disagreed with Rowling, with one tweeting: “Thank you for speaking up for women’s rights.

“As women, we should be allowed to voice our concerns about women space being for women only and the unfairness of sports issue – without being attacked.”
