John Boyega has claimed that the role of James Bond will never be played by a Black person.

The 30-year-old actor appeared on the Happy Confused Sad podcast, where he ruled himself out of playing the iconic British spy.

Boyega started by saying: “I’m sorry but I’m Black – I don’t know how.”

He continued: “When you’re Black, I don’t know how that goes. You as a white man grew up in a society as a white man and that’s normal.

“That’s normal to you. Even the mention of a Black Bond is like ‘Oh, OK’.

“I don’t necessarily believe that but if that’s what they’re doing then that is very surprising to me.

“As an actor, you kind of just stay out of that conversation. But if it’s for you then maybe. But if not then you just enjoy it in a movie theatre like everyone else.”

This comes after Idris Elba, who has long been linked with the role, has reportedly dropped out of the running to replace Daniel Craig as Bond, who retired from the role after last year’s hit No Time To Die.

Since the character made his big screen debut in 1962’s Dr No, six different actors have played Bond, all of whom are white.

In No Time To Die, Lashana Lynch was the first Black actress to have the title of 007, since in the film Bond has retired.

While Boyega has ruled himself out of the role, he is no stranger to blockbuster films as he played Finn in the recent Star Wars trilogy.

Speaking on the Sirius XM radio show, Boyega, who was asked about the backlash Moses Ingram received after her role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, said: “That’s how it goes, man. That’s how it goes, but that’s the peace that I felt.

“Moses Ingram being protected makes me feel protected. Do you understand what I’m saying?

“It makes me feel like, OK, cool. I am not the elephant in the room because when I started it, wasn’t really a conversation you could bring up.

“You know how they went through it. It was kind of like, let’s just be silent. It wasn’t a conversation you could bring up.”
