An Amber Heard v Johnny Depp documentary has been confirmed.

Variety reports that NBC News is launching a doc titled A Marriage on Trial: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard and Truth in the Age of Social Media and it will focus on TikTok’s impact on the defamation trial.

Its synopsis reads: “The Depp v Heard defamation trial evoked two distinct reactions – those who couldn’t get enough and those who received more than they wanted.

“The new deep-dive documentary explores why the trial overwhelmed social media, specifically TikTok, and what viewers missed if social media coverage was their only news source.

“In the wake of a verdict that surprised legal experts, NBC News examines how the trial evolved into the TikTok trial and what the verdict means for future domestic abuse cases.”

It’s believed the 30-minute programme will include a feature interview with Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, among others.

However, the actress and her ex-husband don’t appear to have made an appearance.

The case all started over Heard’s op-ed piece for The Washington Post back in 2018. It was entitled: ‘I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change’.

Following the high-profile trial in June, the jury favoured Depp and the Aquaman star was ordered to pay the actor $10million in compensatory damages, as well as $5million in punitive damages.

This sum was eventually reduced to just $10.35 million by Judge Penney Azcarate, due to Virginia’s cap of $350,000.

A Marriage on Trial: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard and Truth in the Age of Social Media will debut on ET at 10:30pm on Wednesday. It will also be available on demand from NBCNews.com and Peacock.
