Justin Bieber has revealed that his drug problem got so bad at one point bodyguards would check his pulse as he slept.

The 27-year-old made the comments during an interview with GQ magazine.

He said he used the drugs as a ‘numbing agent to just continue to get through’.

He explained: “It was like I had all this success and it was still like: I’m still sad, and I’m still in pain.

“And I still have these unresolved issues. And I thought all the success was going to make everything good.

“And so for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just continue to get through.”

It’s not the first time Bieber has opened up about his struggles with substance abuse.

Speaking in his 2020 YouTube series, Seasons, he said that things got ‘legit crazy scary’.

“People don’t know how serious it got,” he said.

He added: “I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day.”

His fans took to Twitter at the time to praise him for opening up.

One wrote: “Just finished watching @justinbieber‘s documentary, Seasons. The whole 10 episodes. What a show! Awesome documentary.

“I love the drugs episode ‘cause he was so sincere! I will never stop respecting him and being a fan also.

“I  feel money can’t buy happiness after watching his documentary.”

Another added: “Wow. Very proud of this young man.  He’s stronger than he realises.”

He’s now feeling much happier and healthier and can focus on his marriage to Hailey Baldwin.

However, it’s not always been plain sailing for the couple.

Opening up, he said: “The first year of marriage was really tough because there was a lot, going back to trauma and stuff.”

But things are looking up for the lovebirds who share a home in Beverly Hills.

He said: “We’re just creating these moments for us as a couple, as a family, that we’re building these memories. And it’s beautiful that we have that to look forward to.”
