YouTuber Keenan Cahill Has Died Aged 27

YouTube star Keenan Cahill has tragically died aged 27.

Cahill, from Illinois, USA, shot to fame in the early 2010s for viral videos that saw him lip-sync to popular songs from the likes of Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and 50 Cent.

He also turned his hand to music, releasing 18 singles and two EPs through iTunes.

Cahill’s passing was confirmed on his official Facebook page on December 30.

The statement explains that a GoFundMe page has been set up by his family after he died due to complications from undergoing open-heart surgery.

The Facebook post read: “We are sad to announce the passing of Keenan Cahill.  

“The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of the funeral expenses.

“Katie Owens (who set up the GoFundMe) is Keenan’s maternal aunt, sister to his mother Erin Cahill.

“Keenan is an inspiration and let’s celebrate by remembering all the content he created, artists he collaborated with, the music he produced and the love he had for everyone who supported him over the years.”

On the GoFundMe page, Cahill’s family went into further detail about what had led to the YouTuber’s untimely death.

They wrote: “We are devastated to announce that our nephew, Keenan Cahill, passed away on December 29 at the age of 27.

“Twelve days earlier he had open heart surgery and was starting to recover, but complications arose that he couldn’t overcome.”

They continued: “Keenan had Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, which is a progressive condition that causes many tissues and organs to enlarge, become inflamed or scarred, and eventually waste away.

“He was first diagnosed at the age of 1. 

“Because of his rare disease, he has had countless surgeries over his short life including a bone marrow transplant.”

Cahill was one of the first people to find fame on YouTube after he started posting on the platform in 2010.

At present, his channel has 725,000 subscribers and its content has amassed more than 500 million views.

His first hit was a video of him lip-syncing to Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’, which racked up 58 million views.

After seeing the video, Perry reached out to Cahill and the pair ended up singing the song together for a separate YouTube video.

In November 2010, 50 Cent appeared in one of Cahill’s videos, both lip-syncing to the rapper’s song with Jeremih, ‘Down on Me’.

Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Nick Cannon, David Guetta, Jason Derulo, Tyra Banks and DJ Pauly D have also all featured in his videos. 

Cahill was also featured in an advert for SmartWater alongside Jennifer Aniston in 2011.

After his death was announced, DJ Pauly D took to Twitter and paid tribute to Cahill, posting a picture of the pair alongside the caption: “RIP Keenan. Thank you for always making the world smile.”

Perez Hilton also shared a video of his ‘Moves Like Jagger’ duet with Cahill, writing: “Rest in Love.”
