It’s believed that the Oscar winner needs to shell out the cash to Media Rights Capital (MRC) after a petition was filed at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Apparently, Spacey and MRC have been in a disagreement since the 62-year-old was dismissed from the hit Netflix series in 2017 over alleged misconduct that took place on and off the set.

In the lawsuit, MRC has claimed that the actor ‘repeatedly breached his contractual obligations’ and his alleged inappropriate behaviour led to the loss of millions on the company’s behalf.

It reads: “With one exception, the Arbitrator found the third party witnesses to be credible, and found the allegations against Spacey to be true.

“The Arbitrator found that Spacey’s conduct constituted a material breach of his acting and executive producing agreements with MRC, and that his breaches excused MRC’s obligations to pay him any further compensation in connection with the show.”

It adds: “The safety of our employees, sets and work environments is of paramount importance to MRC and why we set out to push for accountability.”

Michael Kump, who is a partner of attorneys Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert, commented: “MRC stood its ground, pursued this case doggedly, and obtained the right result in the end.”

In the claim, the JAMS arbitrator also pointed out how Spacey’s exit from the show meant that the House of Cards temporarily had to be put to a halt.

Apparently, the sixth season had to be rewritten and only eight episodes were produced, instead of 13.

Spacey has not yet commented on the petition.
