Jurassic Park star Laura Dern has shocked fans after revealing how old she was in the blockbuster hit.
The actress’s age at the time the 1993 movie was being produced came out when her former co-star, Sam Neill, was recently interviewed by The Sunday Times.
Mentioning Dern’s ‘tender age’ of 23, the actor reportedly told the publication: “I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady.”

Fans of the action franchise have since taken to Twitter and discussed Dern – who played the role of palaeobotanist Dr Ellie Sattler – and admitted that they were ‘shocked’.
One penned: “It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that Laura Dern is 23 in Jurassic Park because to me she was a capital A adult in that movie, perhaps even up to 50 years old.”
“I cannot fathom this. She looked incredible obviously but she seemed so much older to me,” a second mused.
A third added: “That can’t possibly be true, can it? My God.”

After learning about her age in the film, others have taken to the social media platform and discussed how Dern’s character was supposed to have a PhD.
“I find it difficult to believe that Laura Dern was only 23 during the making of Jurassic Park with Sam Neil being two decades older. Plus her character has a PhD. Unless she’s some kind of prodigy, a qualification at that age is impossible,” one wrote. “I assumed she was about 30 to his 40.”
“I figured she was doing her own research on palaeobotany, otherwise why the hell would she be on a dig with Sam Neill?” another added. “A tenured palaeobotanist at an institution would be in their mid-30s, no?”
