Liam Payne has been slammed over his ‘inappropriate’ comment about ex-partner Cheryl Tweedy.
The former One Direction star appeared on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast where he opened up about meeting the mother of his child at 14 years old.
Recalling his 2010 audition for The X Factor, Payne said: “Listen, when I was 14 I was hot… just kidding.
Watch Liam Payne explain why he finds fatherhood ‘difficult’ in the clip below…
“There’s a bigger part of the story… What happened in one of my auditions is that they put a female judge in front of me and I had to make myself stand out – halfway through the song I winked at her.
“Don’t judge me.
“So, like, I went back to school the day after [I’d] winked at Cheryl in the audition and my friends had gone, ‘What the f***ing hell do you think you’re doing winking at Cheryl Cole on TV?’.”
Payne went on to say that their relationship ‘came naturally,’ adding: “And then fast forward years later we ended up having a baby together.”
When the 28-year-old was then asked whether he attributed their relationship to this ‘wink,’ he answered: “I guess it is a registered weapon – I have to check it in.
“It’s the weirdest How I Met Your Mother story ever because she was the judge on the show – I had a hole in my shoe at the time.”
Cheryl Tweedy’s ‘Homeless’ Brother Hits Out At Star For Not ‘Helping’ Him
Slamming Payne’s appearance on the podcast, one tweeted: “‘Listen when I was 14, I was hot,’ like dude?”
“Liam Payne did a podcast with Logan Paul… He said his kid was so surprised by him being there one morning and he drops him to school once or twice a week and they praised him for it. Like, he’s an absent dad for f** sake,” another fumed. “Talking s*** about Cheryl saying he was a ‘hot’ 14-year-old… Such a melt.”
Payne and Tweedy first went public with their relationship back in 2016.
In the following year, the former couple welcomed a son, named Bear, and then broke up in 2018.
