Doctors say they are on the alert if they hear this one ‘red flag’ phrase uttered by a patient.

Going to see the doctor is never fun, with many patients worrying about being taken seriously.

Chances are you’ve been to see your local doctor or visited the hospital, only to leave feeling more confused than when you went in.

With so much information online warning about different illnesses as well as lists of things we should and shouldn’t be doing to be healthy, it can feel like a minefield out there.

Who hasn’t run the gauntlet of trying to get through to the receptionist who seems to want to do anything besides give you a time to see your doctor?

Many people also turn to Doctor Google and look up their own symptoms online, which often causes unnecessary and untold anxiety when there might actually be a very simple explanation for what’s causing the problem.

But now, one doctor has spoken out and said there’s one ‘red flag’ phrase he always acts on if he hears it.

Dr. Sam Ghali is an ER doctor who has racked up more than 650,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter).

He shares advice and anecdotes from his work in medicine.

The doctor started a thread where he asked other medical professionals to share the phrases or signs they always look for.

Popular answers included never doubting a mother’s intuition, as they have often been proven correct in many horrific cases.

One other doctor said to be aware of one particular type of patient: “Along the same lines, beware the sweet old lady who ‘Doesn’t want to be a bother, but….'”

However, there is one phrase above all that makes the doctor sit up and take notice.

He wrote that this one phrase always strikes fear into his heart and is ‘an indication that something is really f***ing wrong until proven otherwise.’

“Trust me on this one,” he insisted, saying it’s a ‘crystal clear’ indicator things are about to be bad.

The sentence, which apparently often lets doctors know there’s about to be something badly wrong, is: “I feel fine, but my wife made me come in.”

If you’ve ever uttered it and wondered why your doctor has suddenly gone pale, this might be why.

More than 5.5 million people have viewed his post.

It could be that the patient has resisted attending the doctor for a long time, causing a problem to become chronic or more serious.

Or, it could be that they had been frightened by scary symptoms, which also caused them to delay.

It is often followed by an “I told you so!” by the wife, once their loved one has finally sought out the medical treatment they had been telling them to do.
