Two years after a woman vanished without a trace, a chilling discovery was made through Google Maps.

For months, the disappearance had lingered like an unanswered question in a neighborhood where little ever seemed to happen.

What began as an ordinary afternoon had somehow unraveled into a mystery that defied explanation.

One minute she was there, the next she was gone — no signs of struggle, no clear direction, no witness who could explain how someone could simply slip away in broad daylight.

As weeks turned into months and months into years, hope gradually gave way to uncertainty.

Conversations shifted from ‘where is she?’ to the heavier possibility that answers might never come. Life, outwardly at least, carried on.

Then, nearly two years later, an unexpected digital breadcrumb surfaced – not from a witness stepping forward or a new piece of forensic evidence, but from Google Maps. What it revealed would reopen the mystery in the most tragic way.

A disappearance without a trace

83-year-old Paulette Landrieux, from Andenne, Belgium, suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

She was cared for her by her husband, Marcel Taret.

In a video, MrBallen, who shares true crime stories and mysteries on YouTube, said: “Paulette needed help remembering to eat or to take her medications on time.

“Sometimes she would just wander off without telling Marcel, and he would have to go and corral her and bring her back home.”

Landrieux vanished on November 2, 2020, after Taret briefly stepped away to hang clothes on a line while leaving her in front of the television with lunch.

When he returned, his wife was nowhere to be found.

Despite a prompt response from authorities, including a search-and-rescue helicopter, Landrieux could not be located.

“Over the next few days and weeks, Paulette didn’t turn up,” MrBallen said. “Nobody had any idea where she was, and weeks turned into months and then months turned into two full years that nobody had seen Paulette.

“By that point, Marcel had basically resigned himself to the fact that he very likely would die without ever figuring out what happened to his wife.”

Yet two years later, a neighbor browsing Google Maps made a startling discovery.

The clue hidden in plain sight

In a street view image captured outside Landrieux and Taret’s home, the 83-year-old could be seen walking away, while Marcel was visible in the background hanging laundry.

The neighbor alerted investigators, who used the image to reconstruct Landrieux’s path.

According to MrBallen: “Across the street was a steep hill that led down to a thick bramble bush.”

Tragically, Landrieux’s body was found in that bush.

“When that huge search for her was going on, very likely she was just trapped down there,” the podcaster explained.

“She didn’t understand what was going on, couldn’t necessarily yell up to communicate with anybody, and so she stayed down there and died.”

A tragic truth revealed

The revelation brought an end to two years of agonizing uncertainty, but it offered little comfort.

Landrieux had been heartbreakingly close to her husband, but hidden by terrain and circumstance rather than distance.

The case also underscored how fragile life can be, particularly for those living with conditions like Alzheimer’s, where a moment of confusion can carry devastating consequences.

Despite swift search efforts and the support of the community, Landrieux had remained unseen, just beyond sight.

In the end, it wasn’t a breakthrough in forensic science or a long-awaited witness that solved the mystery, but a chance glance at a digital map.

The image, frozen in time, became the silent clue that answered the question everyone had been asking – and closed a chapter defined by loss, uncertainty, and a love that had never stopped searching.

Landrieux’s story is a stark reminder that sometimes the truth is not lost to distance or time, but obscured by the smallest details – waiting, unnoticed, until someone finally looks closely enough to see it.
