Woman Screamed Six Haunting Final Words Before Ripping Out Her Eyes
A woman’s six final haunting words before ripping out her own eyes have been revealed.
Kaylee Muthart made the life-altering decision to tear out her own eyes in February 2018, but the person she was before that shocking moment was entirely different.
Kaylee was a straight-A student, and had aspirations to secure a college scholarship and study marine biology.
At the time, she was working long hours to save up for her first car, and had always suffered with an irregular heartbeat.
As her grades started to slip, she decided to take some time away from her studies, and focus on her well-being.
Kaylee Muthart’s story before the tragic incident
But by the time she turned 18, Kaylee had slipped into drinking alcohol socially and smoking weed regularly.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, she noted that her family had a history with battling addiction, which she became very aware of.
“I actively avoided what I considered more serious drugs,” she said.
She continued to smoke weed with friends, and experienced one particular high that proved to be life-altering.
She’d always been religious, but this high made her feel closer to God.
During this time in her life, she became more heavily dependant on the drug, and soon began taking Xanax.
Following a breakup with her boyfriend, Kaylee experienced a breakdown.
Sadly, she became involved with the wrong people and at 19 years old, and the day that changed her existence forever saw Kaylee allegedly consume a larger-than-usual amount of m***.
What followed, just days before she was set to enter rehabilitation at her mother’s demand, was a drug-induced hallucination.
Hallucination that changed everything
The hallucination convinced Kaylee she needed to meet somebody at the church in her area.
She said: “I remember thinking that someone had to sacrifice something important to right the world, and that person was me.
“I don’t know how I came to that conclusion, but I felt it was, without doubt, the right, rational thing to do immediately.
“I got on my hands and knees, pounding the ground and praying, ‘Why me? Why do I have to do this?'”
In her horrifying account of what happened, Kaylee added: “I pushed my thumb, pointer, and middle finger into each eye.
“I gripped each eyeball, twisted, and pulled until each eye popped out of the socket – it felt like a massive struggle, the hardest thing I ever had to do.”
A pastor from inside the church came out to help her, and later said that he found Kaylee holding her eyeballs in her hands.
She recounted: “He [the pastor] later said, when he found me, that I was holding my eyeballs in my hands. I had squished them, although they were somehow still attached to my head.”
The young girl was swiftly rushed to hospital, where surgeons worked quickly to remove what remained of her eyes, to protect her optic nerves and prevent infection.
What is Kaylee doing now?
Sadly, Kaylee is now blind, but revealed that the traumatic experience ultimately led her to give up drugs and pursue sobriety.
Speaking to the Daily Star in 2023, she said: “Because I have seen before, my mind will not accept not seeing.
“They are called visual hallucinations and I kind of think of that as God not letting me be in the darkness.
“Even when you are blind it is not dark. I visualise like silhouettes of what I think is there.”
Speaking about her sobriety, she added: “Sometimes I think it’s a blessing that I am blind because even nowadays, if I ever do get a drug craving, which is very little, but in addiction when you have used the needle, you imagine the blood going into the syringe and that is an eyesight temptation.
“You can’t really do it blind, you could do it I’m sure, but I don’t know if it would be smart.”
Kaylee’s final words before the horrifying moment
Before ripping her eyes out, Kaylee yelled up to the sky questioning why God had chosen her for this sacrifice.
As the pastor found her in complete distress, she was heard screaming: “I want to see the light!”
Kaylee now does motivational speeches sharing her story, and insists that she would choose blindness over drug addiction.
