The woman with no limbs and her husband have answered the one question everyone always asks.

Briel Adams-Wheatley never expected a simple makeup video filmed during lockdown to completely change her life.

At the time, she was just another young person stuck at home, scrolling through social media and looking for something creative to do.

But one casual decision to post online would eventually turn her into one of the internet’s most recognizable disability advocates and lifestyle influencers.

Today, Briel has built a huge audience across TikTok and Instagram, where millions of followers watch her share honest glimpses into her daily routine.

From makeup tutorials to relationship videos and personal reflections, her content has attracted attention not just because she was born without limbs, but because of the confidence, humor, and honesty she brings to every post.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Briel lives with an extremely rare condition known as Hanhart Syndrome, a congenital disorder that affects limb development.

Fewer than three dozen cases have reportedly been documented worldwide. She was later adopted by a family in Utah, where she grew up learning how to navigate the world independently.

Although strangers online often focus on what she cannot do, Briel’s content consistently shows what she can do. She applies makeup flawlessly, puts on false eyelashes with precision, cooks, travels, dances, creates social media content, and shares life with her husband, Adam.

Over time, however, another topic began generating intense curiosity among viewers. As Briel became more open about her identity and personal life, people started asking the same question repeatedly. Eventually, both she and her husband decided it was time to answer it publicly.

From isolation to internet fame

Like many influencers who exploded online during the pandemic years, Briel’s rise to fame happened unexpectedly.

During lockdown, she decided to record a ‘get ready with me’ video while experimenting with makeup. At first, she only filmed herself from the chest up, avoiding any wider shots of her body. But viewers quickly became curious.

Briel recalled the flood of comments she received after posting the video.

“I was like, ‘Let’s film a makeup video.’ So I filmed one just from the chest up, and it did really well. But all the comments were like, ‘Why aren’t you using your hands? Why aren’t you using your hands?’”

Initially, she had no intention of discussing her limb difference online. But after seeing thousands of people repeatedly asking the same thing, she realized hiding part of herself was impossible if she wanted to continue creating content authentically.

When she finally revealed her full appearance online, her audience exploded.

What surprised many people was not simply that Briel could complete everyday tasks without arms or legs, but how naturally and confidently she approached life. Her videos became less about shock value and more about independence, self-expression, and adapting to challenges.

Still, internet fame also came with negativity. Trolls and invasive comments became a regular part of her online experience. Yet Briel says the confidence instilled in her by her adoptive mother helped prepare her for those moments.

She has often credited her mom for refusing to let her see herself as incapable. From a young age, she was encouraged to climb stairs independently, participate in school activities, and push beyond the expectations others placed on her.

“I never saw myself with a disability,” Briel once explained, “and it’s because of how persistent my mom was with making sure that I was independent.”

That mindset eventually led her toward another passion: dance.

As a teenager, Briel joined her high school dance team and began choreographing routines herself. Dance became a form of freedom and self-expression, much like makeup would later become online.

“I realized I needed to show people at school that I wasn’t just the kid in the wheelchair,” she said. “Before that, I wasn’t getting invited to parties or asked to hang out. But once people saw what I could do, everything changed.”

The love story that captured attention online

While many followers first discovered Briel because of her inspiring makeup videos, others became invested in her relationship with her husband, Adam.

The couple first met on Tinder in February 2020, shortly before the pandemic reshaped everyday life around the world.

According to Briel, their first date immediately stood out because Adam focused on including her rather than treating her differently.

Instead of making awkward assumptions about what she could or could not do, he simply adapted naturally. That attitude helped form the foundation of their relationship.

As their romance developed, Adam became a regular presence in her social media content. Fans quickly noticed the chemistry between them, especially in videos showing their everyday routines together.

Briel has shared numerous examples of Adam supporting her independence rather than trying to take control of tasks for her.

One particularly meaningful gesture involved him building her a custom desk designed specifically for her height and needs, making it easier for her to film videos and apply makeup.

Their relationship resonated with viewers because it challenged common stereotypes about disability and relationships.

Many people admitted they had rarely seen a visibly disabled influencer openly discussing marriage, intimacy, confidence, and identity in such a public way.

But eventually, attention shifted toward another deeply personal topic.

The question everyone kept asking

In 2023, Briel publicly came out as a transgender woman.

The announcement sparked huge support from followers, but it also triggered endless questions about how her husband felt regarding the transition.

Because Adam had already been with Briel before the transition became public, viewers repeatedly wondered whether their relationship changed afterward.

The curiosity became so persistent that the couple eventually addressed it directly in a social media video.

In the clip, Briel explained that Adam actually knew about her feelings long before anyone else did.

“I started my transition a year after we got married, right?” Briel asked him.

Adam responded: “I think so, but you told me way before everybody else.”

Briel then elaborated further, explaining that she had discussed her feelings with Adam even before they got married.

“Yeah, I had also told him a little bit before we got married, too that I was having feelings about it, but I just wasn’t sure if it was something I was comfortable with, actually fully going into and just keeping suppressed,” she explained.

She continued: “But Adam was the first person to know before everyone. And I waited a few months before I did it publicly as well. I already started a few things behind the scenes.”

For many followers, the conversation was eye-opening because it showed how much communication and trust existed in their marriage long before the public ever knew about Briel’s transition.

Still, viewers remained most curious about one thing: Adam’s reaction.

Husband finally answers the question everyone wanted to know

After years of speculation and repeated questions online, Adam finally addressed the topic directly.

His answer turned out to be far simpler than many people expected.

“I really couldn’t care less about her transitioning,” he said honestly. “I mean, like, I’m very happy that she found who she is. And I’ve seen a big difference in her happiness and confidence and everything.”

Then came the statement that resonated most strongly with viewers.

“But I mean, I fell in love with her and not what she was, just who she was.”

For Adam, the hardest part was never accepting Briel’s identity. Instead, it was adjusting to practical details while she was still deciding who knew publicly about her transition.

“It was hard going from like pronouns for more than one reason,” he explained. “One, because I knew before everybody else. So I had to use he/him in front of people, and I couldn’t remember who she had told yet or not.”

He also admitted the transition period involved constant adjustments.

“And so it was really confusing to use one thing at home and another [outside their home]. And then as soon as I got the pronouns under control, she changed her name and then started wearing wigs.”

Despite the challenges, Adam described the experience positively overall.

“It was just a lot of learning, learning, learning, learning, learning,” he said. “But it was a good journey. She was patient with me.”
