Tom Hiddleston Says Loki Coming Out As Bisexual Is ‘Small Step’

Tom Hiddleston has said that Loki coming out as bisexual is simply a ‘small step’. 

The 41-year-old has opened up about his character, who hit the small screens of Disney+ back in 2021.

Chatting to The Guardian, Hiddleston said that he hoped the move regarding Loki’s sexuality was super ‘meaningful’ to many fans of the show.

He told the publication: “I hope Loki coming out as bisexual was meaningful to people who spotted it.

“It was a small step, and there’s further to go. But it was definitely important to all of us.”

Hiddleston’s character, Loki, acknowledged that he was interested in both men and women in Season 1 when discussing his love life with friend Sylvie (played by Sophia Di Martino).

The show’s director, Kate Herron, has previously taken to Twitter and said the moment was ‘very important’ to her.

She explained: “From the moment I joined Loki, it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual.

“It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and [my] heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in MCU.”

Before appearing on the small screen, the Marvel character had already made a few appearances within the universe, including Thor and The Avengers.

Speaking of Loki, screenwriter Michael Waldron has addressed speculation surrounding Season 2.

In an interview with Deadline’s Hero Nations, he said: “In creating the show in the first place, the only way it’s worth doing to me is that we can find a new story to tell with this character.

“It felt like we had new emotional ground to cover with Loki. That’s the only way into Season 2. We absolutely found that.

“It’s a great continuation of that story that feels different from season one and hopefully will subvert expectations.”
