Love Island’s Faye Winter has been accused of ‘cultural appropriation’ after wearing an Avatar costume for Halloween.
The 26-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday and shared a snap of herself and boyfriend Teddy Soares dressed as the Na’vi species from the blockbuster hit.
Sharing a post of her dressed as Zoe Saldana’s character, Neytiri, Winter captioned it: “I see you @teddy_soares.”

The pictures have since accumulated over 250,000 likes. However, some people have blasted the reality TV star for wearing the box braids.
One said: “Box braids are a part of [a] culture, not to be a part of a Halloween costume.”
In agreement, another added: “At least one person said something.”
Over on Twitter, a third remarked: “This feels wrong.”
However, many have defended Winter and argued that she was ‘dressed as a movie character’ and there’s nothing ‘culturally appropriative’ about the outfit at all.
One of her followers pointed out: “Have you seen her partner? He’s not offended so neither should you be.”
Pitching in, a second commented: “Have you seen Avatar? The character is literally dressed like this, that’s all she’s doing.”
“For f*** sake,” a third person fumed. “Some folk just look for things to be offended about. She is dressed as a film character and that was the character’s hair. Honestly, get a grip.”
A fourth chimed in: “Quite true. It’s quite amazing how sensitive we’ve become as humans, that we find it necessary to project our unhappiness and negativity on others. Box braids are a bloody hairstyle.”
As of yet, Winter hasn’t addressed the backlash surrounding the costume.
