A man decided to surprise his younger brother by returning all his rent payments that he had been ‘charging’ him so that his sibling could use the money to buy a home of his own. Now, this is a story which will restore your faith in humanity.
App designer and software developer Todd Burkemoer decided to build a home for himself in Wentzville, Missouri when he and his younger brother graduated in 2017, as the pair decided it would be a nice idea to live together for a while.
So that it was fair, Todd began to charge his brother rent money for every month he lived there. Yet unbeknown to Alex, his older brother decided it would be a great idea to put the money he handed over into a savings account so that it would go towards something important. He even put some of his own money aside and into the account too.
Basically, Alex was living with his brother rent-free, instead of making the decision to move back in with their mum and dad.
Todd wanted his little brother to have his own house and be in a comfortable situation by using the money in the savings as a deposit for a home.
After a while of saving Alex’s ‘rent’ money, Todd finally decided to tell Alex what he had been up to.
Aware that Alex was looking at putting down an offer on a property in May, their mum Barbara recorded his reaction as he was told what Todd had been planning. He then showed him the savings account on his phone and explained what it had been for all along.
Overcome with emotion, Alex couldn’t believe his brother had done such a selfless deed and kept it secret for such a long time.
The Good News Network reported that Barbara said in an email: “After posting this story on my Facebook page that evening and reading all of the heartwarming responses, I felt compelled to share this story of brotherly love with a wider audience.
“The generosity shown by Todd is just one of the many amazing facets of his character. We are so very humbled by the awesome human being he has grown into.”

She wants other mums to know that it’s okay if you find motherhood difficult and that she thinks it’s healthy to take it just one day at a time.
