A man branded a ‘thug’ by the Prime Minister has been sacked from his job after harassing Chris Whitty.

Lewis Hughes, from Romford, has lost his position as an estate agent after footage of the incident, which happened in St James’ Park in London, went viral.

In an interview with The Sun, the 24-year-old said: “I absolutely apologise for any upset I caused.

“If I made him feel uncomfortable, which it does look like I did, then I am sorry to him for that.

“He is quite a timid, shy person, and I think that is why he didn’t say ‘Get off me’. If he had said that and I had realised how he felt, I wouldn’t have put my arm around him.”

The former estate agent then admitted that he had wanted a selfie with Whitty so that he could show it to his mum.

“There was no malicious intent, I didn’t want to upset him,” he insisted. “I’ve paid the price with my job.”

Jonathan Chew, Hughes’ friend, also told the paper: “Sometimes, things seem like a good idea and really, they’re not.

“We didn’t cause any harm to him. We just wanted a selfie.”

So far, Whitty hasn’t publically commented on the incident.

Reportedly, if the footage hadn’t circulated online, he wouldn’t have gone public with the story.

However, the police are believed to have taken the pair’s details down and are still investigating the incident.
