Margot Robbie has responded to the bizarre conspiracy theory that she and Emma Mackey are the same person.
The Wolf of Wall Street star addressed the resemblance between her and the Sex Education actress in an exclusive chat with It’s Gone Viral at the premiere of her upcoming film Amsterdam.
Referencing the fact Mackey speaks French, Robbie told IGV: “Her French is far better than mine and that will put the conspiracy to rest immediately.”

The Birds of Prey actress continued, saying: “She also speaks Spanish, and she also has an amazing singing voice.
“I can not speak Spanish, am not fluent in French, and I don’t have an amazing singing voice as you will also find out in this movie.
“So I think that will finally put that conspiracy to rest, we’re not the same person.
“But we are friends and I love her.”

The theory began when Mackey first appeared in Sex Education, as fans immediately recognised a resemblance between her and the Hollywood star.
Mackey also addressed the fact they look alike when interviewed by Total Film, as she said the conspiracies are ‘funny’.
The Death on the Nile actress revealed: “It’s just funny. And I think Margot has had the grace and humour to be able to play on that, and allow me to be in the same film as her – bless her.
“It’s just a joke in real life. I’m like, ‘We don’t look anything like each other’. I don’t mind it. It’s Margot Robbie. Are you kidding me? She’s the best. I look up to her so much. I don’t mind the comparisons. But it would be nice to move past that.”
Despite this comment, it seems Hollywood has also bought into the conspiracy theory, as both Robbie and Mackey have been cast opposite each other in the upcoming Greta Gerwig film Barbie.
The 2023 movie, which will also star Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell, has slowly become one of the most anticipated films of next year after a number of behind-the-scenes images got released on social media.
Speaking about filming Barbie, Mackey said she has always dreamed of working with Gerwig and the script is ‘one of the best she has read’.
She also told Total Film: “When that came along, I was like, ‘I need to audition for this’. I was really excited because Greta’s my hero, and I adore her.

Speaking about the tone of the film, Mackey added how the film will surprise viewers and described it as ‘unexpected’ before also mentioning it is a comedy.
She continued: “I’m really excited. And it’s a comedy, thank God. No crying in this film! Let me tell you that. No crying! It was great to do pure comedy – an American comedy, as well. And I got to work with some heroes.”
