Mark Zuckerberg has made a dig at Elon Musk after Meta’s new Twitter rival has seen millions of sign-ups overnight.

Zuckerberg, 39, is a renowned tech entrepreneur and the co-founder of Facebook, a social media platform that has revolutionised online communication and propelled him to become one of the world’s youngest billionaires.

While Musk, 52, is a visionary entrepreneur known for his involvement in numerous groundbreaking ventures, including SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.

Notably, he acquired Twitter in October 2022 and has made numerous changes to the platform since his takeover.

Although the two tech moguls have been engaging in lighthearted banter about a potential physical fight, Zuckerberg has taken the opportunity to throw some verbal jabs at Musk while promoting his app.

Threads, similar to Twitter, allows users to share posts, engage with others through likes, replies, and shares, and have private conversations via direct messages.

With integration into the larger Meta system, Threads enables users to maintain their usernames and follow the same accounts as on Zuckerberg’s other platform, Instagram.

While Zuckerberg emphasised the importance of keeping Threads ‘friendly’ for its success, Musk has scoffed at the idea and expressed his preference for the candid nature of Twitter.

Musk said: “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.

“Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully, we will.”

Despite the friendly rivalry, Threads quickly gained traction with over five million sign-ups within just four hours of its launch.

When asked if Threads would surpass Twitter, Zuckerberg said: “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it.”

Threads is currently available for download in more than 100 countries, excluding the EU due to regulatory concerns.

As its success unfolds, the ongoing friendly competition between Zuckerberg and Musk continues, with the latter still interested in proving his power over the Facebook founder in a physical confrontation.

The exchange between the two even prompted discussions involving UFC president Dana White about a potential ‘cage match’.
