Matthew Perry has split from his fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, days after fans shared their concern over his ‘slurred speech’ during the Friends reunion.
Perry, 51, and Hurwitz, 29, got engaged in November 2020 but have now decided to go their separate ways.
“Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,” the actor told People magazine. “I wish Molly the best.”
Perry confirmed he had popped the question to the publication last year.
He said at the time: “I decided to get engaged.
“Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
Hurwitz, a literacy manager, has yet to comment on the split.
The news comes just days after Friends: The Reunion, featuring James Corden, aired.
Perry’s appearance and speech were a huge talking point during the episode on Twitter.
One person wrote at the time: “Although I loved the reunion, it was difficult watching Matthew Perry like this. He was talking with a slurred speech. Sad to see our beloved Chandler like this.”
Another added: “He sounded very slurred and mumbled as if he was wearing dentures that didn’t fit. Very sad to see.”
However, a representative of the star later explained that the 51-year-old had undergone an emergency dental procedure that day which was the cause.
A source told The Sun: “That was said to impact his wellbeing and also how he was feeling.
“He had been in pain from what we understand, which caused the slurred speech.”
They added: “Obviously no one wants to film after a procedure, but it happened. The feeling was one of huge sympathy for Matthew, especially in recent days given how people have reacted online.”
