As the UK remains under the coronavirus lockdown for the foreseeable future, it looks like it will be a while before anyone can go to McDonald’s and savour a bite of their beloved cheese melt dippers. So in the meantime, fans have been trying to recreate the recipe, with some having more success than others!
Rees Edward-Caulier and his girlfriend Kirsty decided that they would have a go at trying to make some delicious cheese melt dippers inspired by the fast-food chain McDonald’s whilst stuck inside with nothing to do and from the looks of it, it was a success!
At Christmas, McDonald’s added cheese melt dippers to the menu but had to remove them early this year “due to kitchen space and specialist equipment requirements, we’re limited in the number of food items we’re able to offer at any one time”.
Feeling reminiscent of eating those wonderful little pieces of cheese heaven, Rees and his girlfriend decided that they would have a go at making some themselves. Thankfully, they shared it to TikTok so others who are less culinary inclined could have a go too.
To make some cheese melt dippers of your own, you’ll only need a Babybel, breadcrumbs, flour and an egg.
First of all, you start off by whisking an egg in a bowl. Then, grab your Babybel and roll it into the flour. You can use self-raising or normal, either works perfectly fine.
Once you’ve rolled your Babybel into the flour, then you roll it with the whisked egg.
Using the breadcrumbs, pour them across a plate and then coat the Babybel in the crumbs.
Next, heat some oil in a frying pan and make sure that it coats the Babybel completely. With a spatula, place your Babybel into the oil.
Once it’s a perfect golden brown on both sides, you’re good to go!
To add a little extra flavour, you could try using a tangy tomato dip like the McDonald’s sauce, or whatever else tickles your fancy.
Since being posted, Rees and Kirsty’s video has amassed over 241,000 likes and over 2,500 comments.
It seems that people really appreciated the tip, especially as people are snacking a lot more during lockdown!
One person commented: “Dayum these look good.”
Whilst one simply said: “Omg well done.”
Another stated: “Looks delicious.”
