McDonald’s fans are just learning what’s in the chain’s Sweet ‘n’ Sour dipping sauce.

People tend to know what they’re getting with McDonald’s, but many have been stunned to discover a key ingredient in the popular food item.

In a viral TikTok video, a woman was shocked to find out the ‘secret’ ingredient.

She said: “Sweet ‘n’ Sour sauce, McDonald’s – am I the only one who didn’t know what fruit it’s made of?

“Have a guess…”

Many guessed pineapple, which is commonly found in sweet and sour recipes, while others suggested mango, usually in chutney.

In the TikTok video’s comment section, one user said: “I said mango SO confidently… I had no idea it was even a fruit.”

“Honestly, I never even thought about it; I just ate it,” another added. “Something told me to read the ingredients whilst eating my chippies and I was shoooooketh.”

A third person commented: “Low-key thought it was pineapple.”

“23 years of being my favourite sauce and I’ve never thought to read the ingredients,” somebody else typed.

These answers would be wrong. The popular Sweet ‘n’ Sour sauce is actually made using apricots.

In the TikTok video, the woman commented: “It’s f***ing apricot… it’s apricot.”

According to the McDonald’s website, the sauce ‘blends flavors of apricot and peach with savory spices and leaves a slight lingering heat.’

A fellow content creator recently racked up tons of views by showing how to make the popular sauce using everyday ingredients.

They mixed 1/4 cup of apricot preserve, 1/4 cup of peach preserve, two tablespoons of corn syrup, five teaspoons of white vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon of soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of mustard, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon of garlic, and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch.

They blended the ingredients before adding two tablespoons of water and bringing the mixture to a boil for five minutes.

Stunned by the results, the foodie said: “I’m gonna get in so much trouble. They are 150 percent the same sauce.

“I don’t think you understand. This is exactly the same texture.”
