Meghan Markle has been accused of mocking royal traditions in her new Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan

The docuseries follows Markle, 41, and Prince Harry, 38, and their lives after stepping back from the royal family in 2020.

From dating in secret to their constant battle with the British press, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their complex journey in their own words for the first time.

The docuseries has been watched by millions since it dropped on the streaming platform on December 8, but it is leaving viewers divided.

Many people have been critical of a particular scene in the opening episode, as some believe it shows Markle mocking royal traditions.

It takes place when the couple recalls Markle’s initial meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In the scene, Markle makes light of her awkwardness when it comes to curtsying, while Prince Harry watches on.

The Duchess says: “Now I’m starting to realise this is a big deal. I mean, Americans would understand this.”

She then compares the experience to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, which is an American dinner theatre production which includes events such as jousting and sword-fighting.

Royal expert Angela Levin appeared on GB News to discuss the new docuseries, and she had a lot to say about this particular moment.

Levin said: “She wants to kill it [the monarchy] all off, absolutely crush it to pieces.

“And I think we’ve got to have a big fight back to protect our royal family and our own kingdom.

“You know, it’s just beyond words, really. And Harry, when he actually showed a glimpse of being not very pleased with that – because most of it he was looking at her adoringly.

“That’s OK. But when she did that phoney curtsy and then with a squeaky voice said, ‘I’m so pleased to see you, Your Majesty’, he looked horrified.”

Levin went on to brand Prince Harry and Markle – and their docuseries – ‘disgraceful’, and also slammed their ‘lack of gratitude’ for what their association with the royal family has given them.

However, not everyone has such a strong negative stance, with many taking to Twitter in support of the couple.

One person wrote: “Why should any human being have to bow to another? I certainly wouldn’t.”

Another said: “I absolutely LOVE how much this beautiful woman, in a loving relationship triggers [people].”

A third added: “The full clip shows Meghan Markle is being self-deprecating. She’s having a joke at her own expense. That’s the point.

“And again, this just underlines the sort of nonsense Meghan has had to deal with: the relentless malicious twisting of everything she does and says.”

While someone else added: “You see it as her being disrespectful, I see it as her making fun of herself meeting the Queen for the first time, which obviously made her nervous and probably starstruck I guess.

“Read the room.”

“Trying to remain impartial on this but have to admit, this made me feel very uncomfortable!” another wrote.
